  1. Publication

Urban Science publishes a study on economic growth and municipal waste

The article examines the waste Kuznets curve for municipal solid waste in Colombia, that is, how waste generation and recovery change as the economy grows, and the role of institutions in that relationship.

  2. Training

Eduardo Arroyo Dagobeth earns his PhD in Energy Engineering

Universidad de la Costa awarded the degree for the thesis on energy valorisation through small-scale co-gasification of pelletised rice husk and corncob, co-supervised by Daniel Otero Meza and granted the laureate distinction. It is the group's first doctoral thesis.

  3. Publication

A spatial multi-criteria framework to choose anaerobic co-digestion substrates

Biomass publishes a method that combines spatial analysis and multi-criteria decision-making to select agricultural and livestock residues in tropical regions. Two group members are among the ten authors.

  5. Event

Three talks at the 12th International Conference on Sustainable Solid Waste Management

In Paphos, Daniel Otero Meza and Eduardo Arroyo Dagobeth presented work on pyrolytic gas from biomass pellets, the energy potential of biogas from agricultural waste and the life cycle assessment of carbon dioxide conversion.

  6. Publication

Book on selecting energy recovery alternatives for municipal waste

Editorial Unisucre publishes a methodological tool for the integrated assessment and selection of energy recovery alternatives for municipal solid waste.

  7. Event

Two talks at the 11th International Conference on Sustainable Solid Waste Management

In Rhodes the group presented a global biorefinery strategy for food waste and prediction models for the bio-oil potential of cassava residues.

  8. Event

The group organises the International Congress on Residual Biomass Valorisation

From 28 February to 1 March 2024 Universidad de Sucre hosted the congress, organised with Universidad Nacional de Colombia (Manizales) and Universidad de la Costa, with talks and posters on pyrolysis, anaerobic digestion, gasification and machine learning.
